The firm offers specialist services in immigration, education, public law and prison law. Our client base consists of individuals, local authorities, employers and other law firms seeking advice on a consultancy basis.
Immigration
We deal with the whole spectrum of cases, ranging from applications under the Points Based System to human rights and asylum work. We have successfully appealed many cases through the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and International Tribunals.
Members of the team have a significant amount of advocacy experience. Consequently we are able to provide advocacy from within our own team. This avoids the duplication of legal costs and provides our clients with a full range service from first appointment to final hearing.
Education
The firm has particular expertise in challenging the decisions of education institutions and funding authorities. In such matters we can assist with internal appeal mechanisms and complaints to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator.
Public Law
We assist clients who wish to challenge administrative decisions where apparently no appeal routes remain open. Examples of such cases include challenging Criminal Record Bureau decisions, parents challenging decisions to place their children on the at risk register and local authority decisions on age assessments. We have been able to recover financial compensation for clients affected by wrongful acts of local and central government which have led to the loss of business, livelihood and liberty.
Prison Law
Luqmani Thompson & Partners has many years experience advising prisoners, particularly foreign national prisoners, whose immigration status can unnecessarily affect sentence planning. We also assist prisoners in challenging re-categorisation decisions.
