Susanna joined Luqmani Thompson and Partners in August 2014 as a trainee solicitor, qualifying in April 2016. Susanna advises across a wide range of immigration, asylum and nationality law. Her caseload includes registration and naturalisation applications, applications for family members under both EEA law and the Immigration Rules, and applications under the long residence provisions of the Immigration Rules.
She has a particular interest in working with children and young people. She has successfully made registration (citizenship) applications for children under 18 who have no status in the UK, established the immigration status of young clients whose relationship with the adults with whom they arrived has broken down, and made human rights applications on behalf of young people on the basis of their connections to the UK. She is regularly instructed by local authorities to establish and/or regularize the status of children or young people in their care.
She is also interested in the crossover between immigration and criminal law, advising and representing clients with convictions and/or who fall under the Home Office’s Operation Nexus. She frequently assists both EEA nationals and third country nationals in relation to their appeals against deportation orders or in applications to revoke deportation orders.
“ I have recently worked with Susanna […] First and foremost, Susanna was approachable, friendly (but professional), communicative, responsive and clear and detailed with her instructions.
I believe Susanna was the reason we got a successful result and even if the result had not have been positive the above [recommendation] would still stand [..] I would highly recommend Susanna to anyone facing immigration issues, especially those who need to be worked with in a supportive, understanding and patient way [..] I and my family will continue to use Luqmani Thompson and Partners and hope Susanna will be there to work with.”
